MLKCLC: Durkan is a Progressive Force for Justice

Seattle (August 17) – The Martin Luther King County Labor Council (MLKCLC), which represents the interests of more than 150 affiliated labor organizations with more than 100,000 rank-and-file members, announced last night their sole endorsement for Jenny Durkan.

“Jenny Durkan is a progressive force for justice and stands up time and again for working families. From her time as a dues paying Teamster to her experience as U.S. Attorney, she’s been an unwavering advocate for working families,” said Nicole Grant, Executive Secretary-Treasurer of the MLKCLC. “Jenny’s executive experience and tireless commitment to addressing inequality, social and economic justice, workers rights, and fair wages make her the clear choice to lead Seattle.”

“The MLKCLC defends the rights of working men and women across our city every day, and I’m honored to have their endorsement. I will relentlessly fight alongside them for the living wages and the rights of teachers, electricians, city employees, and every other worker in our city,” said Durkan. “Seattle is at a crossroads with our city changing rapidly, so we must work together to cultivate and protect jobs with robust worker protections and living wages so people can afford to live where they work.”

In addition to the endorsement of the MLKCLC, Durkan has the support of ILWU Local 19, ILWU Local 52, Professional & Technical Employees (PTE) Local 17, Seattle Building & Construction Trades Council, Seattle Fire Fighters Local 27, the Heat and Frost Insulators and Firestop Containment Workers Local 7, UA Local 32 Plumbers and Pipefitters, Laborers 242, Ironworkers Local 86, and SEIU 775, the largest union local in the state.
